Shaken Cacio e Pepe and More at The Ruby in NYC

A new Roaring Twenties-inspired bar and lounge, The Ruby, is now open in the former Lucky Strike space. The menus show a deft Italian touch.

A rigatoni cacio e pepe served from a cocktail shaker makes for a clever attention-getter of a dish at The Ruby. The new Roaring Twenties-inspired bar and lounge features a crafty Italian menu coming from the kitchen as well as the bar, in a space that for many years housed Keith McNally’s most intimate venue, Lucky Strike.

Besides the shaken cacio e pepe, The Ruby plays with the idea of a burger, placing a piece of crispy octopus tail between the buns, and offers small plates including fried burrata, whipped ricotta crostini, and crab tacos. The bar list includes an “Italian Stallion” with fig vodka, limoncello, and ginger beer; a curated wine list focusing on Italian varietals; and another head-turner, a Smoked Rosemary Negroni.

The décor threatens to steal the show, with The Ruby’s website hyping it as “New York City’s Most Attractive Bar.”

It's on-trend to combine elegant décor, an elevated cocktail list, and a smartly arranged bar menu, given the increasing worldwide profile of Italian bars. The Ruby might just be in the right place at the right time.
