Behold, The TRUFF x Super Mario Bros. Movie Collaboration

Holy marketing mashup! The clever truffle sauce team at TRUFF has gone Hollywood with their latest offering, a limited-edition collectible pack tied to the new blockbuster from Nintendo and Illumination, The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

The pack of three of TRUFF’s most popular hot sauces gets a Mario makeover to coincide with the new flick, which premiered Wednesday night. I attended a sold-out showing at a theater in Brooklyn with my young son, and noticed Italian food references in the first few scenes. Early on, in a bit of clever foreshadowing at a family dinner, Mario is upset to learn that the main course is pasta with mushrooms.

Seizing on the connection to mushrooms in the popular Nintendo games that spawned the movie, TRUFF has created Mario-related packaging on its 6 oz. bottles of hot sauces.

The characters that made the cut are (L-R):

  • Toad, the lovable mushroom child, who graces the TRUFF Original Hot Sauce
  • Princess Peach, ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom, who spends much of the Super Mario Bros. Movie sparring with the power-mad Bowser, reps for the TRUFF White Truffle Hot Sauce
  • And Mario himself, on the TRUFF Hotter Hot Sauce. Mama Mia!, indeed.

So how does one get their hands on the TRUFF Super Mario Bros. Movie Collectible Pack. They’re available exclusively on the TRUFF website for $69.99.

I do have one question for TRUFF: When is Luigi going to get his own sauce?
